You are right, London *is* stressful. I live in Rome now, not that small a city per se (and completely overrun by tourists), but after a five-year absence, thought London completely crazy.
I think Cam's reasons for going to the Padstow-Polzeath area are several, from being convenient for surfing while parts of it have long, wide, shallow, kid-safe beaches, to being relatively off the beaten track and not too crowded, as I get a sense that he tries to get as much privacy as he can. I am attaching a few pics - I was stupid enough to have taken a few *from* the spot where he (in those jeans) and Sam (in yellow dress) were photographed in August 2010, but not to have taken a pic *of* the spot itself - as you see, it was just before the weather improved.
And here is one of lovely Tenby, for good measure, from the evening of the following day:
