OMG, I met The Rik!!!
May. 8th, 2007 03:02 pmWell after all the months of nervous waiting and training to get over my agoraphobia enough to make it to see The New Statesman I finally did it! and it was better than I could have ever hoped for. Not only did I get to see the play, but I also got the meet Rik! That wouldn't mean much to a lot of people, but he is only my second biggest hero in the world (after the Manics of course). I am so happy right now, I met Rik fucking Mayall! *Squee!*
Lacking any local friends who are Rik fans (they have no taste in good comedy!) I went to see The New Statesman with me mother, which was cool since she likes The New Statesman TV series. We started out for Nottingham at about 3:30, despite the fact that Nottingham is only about a 2 hour drive from Kidderminster, and that the show didnt't start until 7:30, we thought we should start out early due to it being a bank holiday, we weren't sure whether there would be a lot of traffic, we figured it better to arrive early than late.
Anyway, we arrived in Nottingham somewhere between 5:00 and 5:30 (can't remember the exact time). We had some trouble finding the right parking lot, we drove around looking for a big cemetary, which is supposed to be just before the parking lot we needed. Anyway after 10 mins of driving and finding no cemetary we stopped on the side of the road to look at the map, me mum said she didn't know how we could miss the cemetary since it was so big, it was then I looked out the window, and low and behold we were parked right next to the damned thing! Well from there on it was easy to find the parking lot.
We entered the theatre where The New Statesman was playing at about 7:15, brought a programme and found our seats. The show started just after 7:30, it was fantastic, the whole audeinece were laughing their heads off, particulary this one guy at the back who kept laughing very loudy, until Rik at one point broke character, turned in his direction, and said "fuck off and go home!" in a comical way of course! The bomb explosion at the end make me jump! I wasn't expecting it, and seeing as we were in the front row it was pretty loud.
It was a brilliant play, and the whole cast was awesome. Sadly I coudn't afford to go more than once this tour, I'm hoping they might do it again next year, so I can go again sometime.
Well after the play ended, at about 9:45, me and mum went outside and found the actors exit. We arrived just as the other actors were leaving and signing programmes. As they left most of the crowd left too. Worried that we had missed Rik we aksed a guy stading there if Rik had come out yet, the guy replied that he hadn't, and there was a good chance he wouldn't. Well we decided to try our luck anyway, and stayed there in the hopes of meeting Rik and asking him to sign my book (his autobiography). There were only 5 others staying, a group of 3, the first guy we'd asked, and another guy.
After about 5 mins the guy we'd asked left. After about 20 mins the group of 3 left, after 45 mins there as just me and mum and the 1 other guy still waiting. 5 mins later we were thinking about leaving too, me mum didn't want to wait much longer, which was understandable since she had to drive all the way back to Kiddy and it was getting late. We decided to wait for another 10 mins (making it an hour in total). Well a minute after we decided that, the guy who we asked about Rik when we first got there came back and kindly told us that Rik was in the theatre, in the bar, he had just been up there and got his autograph and advised we do the same. We thanked the guy as he left, and told the other guy who was still waiting for Rik by the exit, and then headed toward the bar.
We got inside the theatre again and asked one of the theatre staff if Rik was still here, he said he was and indicated to the stairs which led to the bar, we aked if it would be alright to go up there, he said it was fine. Well, we headed up the stairs, about half way up I could hear Rik's voice, then me nerves kicked in! and I wasn't too sure about meeting him anymore. Luckily me mum ushered me up the stairs, we got to the top and Rik was standing at the bar asking someone where the toilets were. Just as he turned around he saw me and me mum, we approached him, me mum asked if he'd be so kind as to sign me book, she mentioned that we had been waiting outside and Rik said "have you?" in a surpsied tone.
Rik said of course he'd sign the book, then he said hello to me and I smiled. Me mum mentioned that it was my book I was a huge fan of his stuff, Rik asked in a joky way "can't she speak for herself?" to which me mum said "no, she's too nervous" (bloody right too!) and laughed, I kinda nodded and laughed too. He chuckled and kissed me on the head, taking the book and asked me what me name was. I told him, and spelled it out as he wrote it, he said "that's a lovely name, Aissa". My mum then said again that I was a huge fan and loved him, he then said "well then I'll write "with love"" which he did, then signed it and put 3 kisses under his name, then paused and said "ah, I'll put 7 for good luck" and added 4 more kisses.
He gave me back the book back, and I said "thank you so much" in the calmest voice I could muster (which wasn't very calm at all!). Me mum then quickly asked if we could get a quick pic, to which Rik replied "of course you can". Me mum grabbed the camera and Rik kissed me on the head again and put his arm around me. She tried to take the first pic but didn't press the button right. Rik laughed and my mum tried again, she got it right the second time. Rik then said how we had just caught him as he was about to go to the toilet and laughed.
My mum said thanks to him and again mentioned how much of a huge fan I was, I mumbled "thank you so much" again and we started to leave, Rik then said "oh here, have a pen" and gave me the pen he'd used to sign the book, I said thanks again and smiled and we headed off back down the stairs, as Rik (presumably) headed off to the toilet.
We left Nottingham at about 11:00, after getting a little lost (again) we found the way out and arrived back home just before 1am. Despite being knacked by the time I got home I stayed up to listen to the new Manics album which was out that day, I brought it in Nottingham and hadn't heard it yet and was desperate to hear it, it was awesome, if not rather short, at just over 35 mins (not including the hidden track). Anyway, I'll write more about that in my next journal thingy since this one has rambled on for far too long already!
Stay Beautiful,
Aissa.
P.S. here is the photo of me and Rik: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90/Manicsfan/Rikandme-May7th2007.jpg - I know I look daft in it, but I was too overwhelmed to do anything other than smile stupidly, just like when I met the Manics! Damn my ability turn from a sane, rational human, into a smiling idiot, who can't even speak, every time I meet one of my heros!
