So, apparently I forgot to do my review post last week. I'm not sure why, I think I was too busy with other stuff. But as its a lazy Sunday this week I thought I'd take the opportunity to do this weeks reviews while I can.

Spoilers and speculation for episode S03-E03 of Ashes to Ashes and episode S05-E03 of Doctor Who below.

So, this was a Ray-cenrtic episode. Clearly they're going to have on for each main character this series. With Shaz last week, Ray this week, and Chris next week. Which brought out rather contradictory emotions in me since Ray has always been a character I have found it damn near impossible to like.

Although his racism, homophobia and misogyny has lessened somewhat in A2A to what it was in LoM I still have a hard time getting to like him as a character. However, this was a great episode, and gives us great insight into what made Ray the man he is now.

Keats is an interesting character (in a "I wish someone would punch him in the face" sort of a way!). Obviously a very dislikable character, trying to take the team apart from the inside and blame it on Gene, but interesting nonetheless. Not to mention where this is all going with what happened to Sam. Also interesting is the revelation that Shaz saw the stars which then disappeared, just like Alex did.

I actually felt a lot for Ray in this episode. Which, of course, also has a lot to do with Dean's brilliant acting throughout the episode. Again, like last week with Shaz, we had the spooky close up of Ray with the background fading to black and "Life of Mars" playing softly in the background. That keep giving me the shivers, and has me on tenterhooks about where all this is leading.

I have read all sorts of theories online. From the "they're ALL dead/in a coma" theory to the "it's only Gene Hunt who is real and is in a coma and he's imagining everyone else" to the "Sam and Alex died and were in purgatory and Gene is a Guardian Angel trying to get them into heaven, which is what really happened to Sam when he "died" in the river" theory. Again I am looking forward to next week so much!

I wasn't a big fan of this weeks episode I have to say. Which is a shame for an episode written by Mark Gatiss, who I think is awesome! Although it wasn't entirely down to the writing, it was also due to still disliking the new look Daleks. I was hoping they were going to look better on screen than they did in the promo pics... unfortunately they didn't, IMO.

The Doctor went all Oncoming Storm on the Daleks, which was to be expected. However, it seems kinda hypocritical that in Journey's End Ten chewed out his meta-crisis double over destroying the Daleks, and yet in this it's Eleven's first, and only, intention. I know, I know, changed Doctor equals changed principles and tolerance.

Alright, so the biggest bit that was made of win was the Jammy Dodger "TARDIS destruct button" although it does take some suspension of belief to think that the Daleks wouldn't see straight away that it was a biscuit! The other winning bit was the Dalek offering tea. The rest of the episode I felt was badly paced, much like the End of Time: Part 2 was. Too rushed for the first 30 minutes and then dragged on for the last 15.

I also didn't get how, or why, Bracewell believing he was human would stop the bomb inside him going off? If you planted a bomb inside a real human it would still go off afterall (just ask Jack Harkness!) It was a touching moment though, but really didn't help with the drag of the pacing for that last bit. Also, another suspension of disbelief moment was Bracewell and the others managing to turn normal Spitfires into spaceships in less than 10 minutes!

Any saves the day again. Yay! Although a bit repetitive after she did so last week too. But I do like an intelligent and strong willed companion. The crack is the obvious culprit for Amy not remembering the Dalek invasion in The Stolen Earth/Journey's End. Although I have seen some theories that the crack may be a red herring and there may be some other reason. Next week is the stone angels episode (epic yay!) and River Song (not so much!)

P.S. Happy 39th Birthday to David Tennant today!

I loathed Ray in LoM... I've come to tolerate him in A2A, but I think this episode brought me the closest I'm going to get to actually liking him ^^ he was awesome!

I was reading the theories last night and quietly panicking about what the heck the answer's going to be...

I liked the Who, but it was insanely rushed, I thought. I'd not seen any promos for the skittles!Daleks, though, so I was just all "ah, pretty coloured Daleks, fair enough" ^^
