manicsfan: (Dr. Who - Proud Tardisaholic (damn strai)

It feels kinda weird doing just a Dr. Who review this week now there's no more Ashes to Ashes. I miss it already! Ah well, onto the review...

This is probably going to be another short review this week because, very much like last weeks, I simply can't think of much to say about it. Again it was another entertaining enough episode, but pretty unremarkable.

Here I might have sad something about how sad I was that Rory was killed, and forgotten about, since I love him as a character... if I thought for one moment that he would actually remain dead. Which I don't believe for a second, of course they will bring him back in the finale. Hence why the Doctor remembers him and the ring is still in existence. Quite frankly I was more upset over the Doctor pulling out that piece of the TARDIS from the crack.

I never understand the point of killing a character just to bring them back again. Especially when it's so obvious to the audience that they will return. I was sort of left wondering if there were actually any nice female Silurians? The two most aggressive ones were both female, Alaya and her sister, and the two friendlier ones were both male. Coincidence?

There were some pretty cool characters in this one though. I like Nasreen, she would have made a pretty good companion! So anyway, the result of the story was that Rory "died" (again), Amy forgets him, the Doctor doesn't, and it's left up to just Ambrose, Elliot and Mo to convince the human race "get the Earth ready for a future coalition with the Silurians." Seems like a rather big responsibility to give to one family to convince the whole human race that Silurians not only exist, but are peaceful too, and that we can all live in harmony!

I'm not sure what to think about next weeks episode. My first reaction was "bloody Earth again, has the Doctor given up going to other planets completely?!" My second was "Bill Nighty! Fuck yeah!" and my third was "So I guess this episode is going to be used as the reason that Van Gogh went insane and consequentially killed himself?" I'm not sure how to feel about that. I generally don't like ones where real historical characters are involved, but we'll see how it goes.
